TV One Screening of Unsung: Full Force

I was just Dominique in this post, not Mikette. This post does make reference to Michael Jackson. This was such a memorable and fun night. 98.7 Kiss FM hosts TV One's premiere screening of "Unsung" with R&B group Full Force. There were also performances and guest appearances. The episode airs Monday January 30th.

Shauna and I set out on this adventure. She won this opportunity on 98.7 Kiss FM. We are both fans of old school hip-hop. Growing up, I was definitely exposed to hip-hop and grew an appreciation for it. I'm a mid-80s baby but you could have swore I lived the whole decade. The event was held at SOBs in New York City.

When we arrived, there were some familiar faces in the building. As we went to check our coats in, we ran into Full Force member Paul Anthony and greeted us with a hug. I nearly became struck but I shook it off. I was trying be cool and blend in like everyone else. My first time really being exposed to Full Force was in the "House Party" films. They were know as the bullies that tormented Kid 'N Play. I truly loved them even though they were the bad boys.

As we went back upstairs it was about time for the screening to begin. The show "Unsung" reminds me of VH1's "Behind the Music" as it scans the career and lives of artists. I truly enjoyed it, because it showed many aspects of their lives that I never knew. It really opened my eyes to the kind of people they were and what they have become. I don't want to say to much about the show because the show airs Monday on TV One. All I'm saying is that you all need to view it, because it is an inspirational aspect in it that will bring a tear to your eye.

After the screening, there were performances by Full Force, Force MDs, Chubb Rock, Kangol Kid from UTFO (Untouchable Force Organization) and Allure. They sung hit songs and had the audience on their feet, especially me. A part I loved was the Full Force and Force MDs paid tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5. Force MDs member Jessie D. dresses and performs as Michael Jackson and he is phenomenal.

I was so happy and honored to meet members of Full Force, Bow-Legged Lou and Paul Anthony. They were so humble and genuine guys. I met female R&B group Allure, who covered Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam's hit "All Cried Out." I was also honored to meet Jessie Daniels and I showed him an MJ move or two that I can do. He was majorly impressed and he took my card. Then I also honored to meet Kangol Kid from UTFO. He was such a sweetheart. I had such an amazing time and do recommend you all watch the episode of "Unsung" with Full Force January 30th.

Black Cotton Foundation Post Holiday Party

I had such a great time yesterday performing as Mikette for Black Cotton Foundation's Post Holiday Party and Charity Event. I love performing especially when it's to light up children's faces and inspire them to live their dreams. I'm so glad I was a part of an event that gives and helps children and families.

Photobucket

This event was held at the Stephen Crane Recreation Center in the North Ward of Newark, NJ. I was so happy to spread more MJ love in my hometown and to be accepted. As I walked in, I saw the children light up with joy in their eyes and smile with happiness. I was also happy to see one of my co-workers there. She is related to one of the guys who coordinated the event and once she knew it was me performing, she came out. Big love to her. My brother and mom was there when I arrived with my boyfriend.

I arrived alittle after 3pm and I was wearing my black and gold military jacket with my glove. Once I changed into my black button up, I was ready to get out there and give it my all. My brother introduced me to the audience. I did a medley to "Man In The Mirror," "Dangerous," and "Wanna Be Starting Something." The crowd enjoyed it so much. The children were drwan to me for the rest of the time there. I even got to judge a dance contest for the children to win a bucket of Hershey's chocolate and a Michael Jackson Immortal Tour Soundtrack. The child that won was very happy and lucky as well.

After I performed we all began to eat and then Spiderman showed up. The children was excited. I walked around and talked to the children, took photos and signed my photo cards. Then it was time to hand out gifts and Teddy Bears to the children and they left with a smile. Big love to Black Cotton Foudation for always making people happy by lending a helping hand.
